His final opera, composed the year of his death (1730), \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artaserse_(Vinci)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artasere<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d an opera in the quintessential definition of the term, that is a \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dramma_per_musica\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">drama set to music<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,\u201d has been considered the masterpiece of the Vincian operatic language, and the one which his name is most often invoked. Although he composed earlier operas which were just as effective like <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Li_zite_%27ngalera\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cLi zite &#8216;ngalera<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (1722), an opera buffa which has more or less been left alone, and \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Partenope_(Vinci)\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Partenope<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d (1725), officially recorded in 2013, it is his final opera which cemented his name in opera history.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The opera, three acts but with 41 total scenes, revolves around <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artaxerxes_I\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Artaxerxes I<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, real-life King of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Achaemenid_Empire\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Achaemenid Empire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, that is to say everything from the Eastern part of Libya to the Western part of Uzbekistan, and famous son of equally operatic <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Xerxes_I_of_Persia\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Xerxes I<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Due to the ban of female singers at the time, only castrati were able to play the female roles, although performances of the opera during the 18th-century outside of Rome did feature women. Following a complicated love story between Mandane and Arbace, Semira and Artaserses, and Megabise and Semira, the opera finally ends with a joyous celebration of love with the challenges and deceit being forgiven by the King.
