This week the San Francisco Opera is set to open its 2024-25 season with a production of “Un Ballo in Maschera,” an opera that has not been performed at the company in 10 years. For this new production, the San Francisco Opera has assembled an all-star cast that includes Meigui Zhang, a rising star in the opera.<\/p>\n
Zhang will make her role debut as Oscar and will return to San Francisco Opera where she has had many career triumphs and where she has also made several role debuts. The soprano first performed with the company in Bright Sheng\u2019s “The Dream of the Red Chamber” which OperaWire raved about and said<\/a>, “Her voice literally floated past the space she stood in…Her vocal control both in tone and \u201cpiano\u201d accented the poetry of her presence.”<\/p>\n She would return to the San Francisco during the 2022-23 season when she sang Euridice<\/a> in “Orfeo ed Euridice” and once again received raves with OperaWire noting, “Zhang\u2019s voice was plangent and full of pathos.” Now as she continues to rise in the opera world, Zhang will add Verdi to her resume and continue to show her virtuosic skills.<\/p>\n And for those not in San Francisco, the opera will be live streamed<\/a>. This season, Zhang will also return to Mozart, for which she has become acclaimed over the years.
